Athene Noctu4 is the current project of Spanish sound artist José María Pérez-Flor Mejías (Cádiz, 1969), currently based between Córdoba and Seville. Active since the mid-1990s in projects such as Tension Co., Feday, Cine-Oído, and Centro Electromecánico, his practice focuses on the manipulation of acoustic instruments, found sound objects from natural and urban environments, electronic devices, and field recordings. On a conceptual level, Athene Noctu4’s work explores the relationship between philosophy, metaphysics, and sound, translating reflections rooted in the realm of the mind and the presocratic notion of Noûs into sonic form. He is also the founder and director of the festivals Intr: Muros Arte Sonoro, La Mirada Sonora, and the Intr: Muros Laboratory. To date, Athene Noctu4 has released six albums, including In Search Of The Bronze Forest, Soñando el Tiempo, Desierto / Deseo, The Leaves Dont Leave The Tree*,Hilmas Dream, and Cosmic Soup. His work has been presented in numerous venues and festivals across Spain and internationally, with performances in Austria, Germany, France, Morocco, Argelia, Tunez and the United Kingdom.
