Motto: Scraping the bottom of the barrel for any drop of inspiration TLDR: Just your regular indie singer-songwriter male version of an ON SALE 2for1 dollar-store bought Florence+The Machine and Black Keys act, with a strong 90's grunge, 2000's alt-rock and 2010's indie-pop influences, caught up in the conflict between his ego and imposter syndrome. All sprinkled with an acquired taste for melodrama and cinematic mainstream catharsis. Barrelly Ego started gaining some traction this year with his song "Pleasant Conversation" having a small breakthrough, with it being featured on Spotify's editorial playlist "Fresh Finds GSA"(Germany,Switzerland, Austria) for 5 months as well as PAUL GALLAGHER's weekly mix -"PAUL GALLAGHER #EP190 (04-08-24)" on Mixcloud- and Vinil Moon's monthly vinyl blog mix, amongst many more Spotify user generated playlists. His latest double single took everything a step further. For "Wither Weather," he got to collaborate with the excellent Antonin Pevny on a blockbuster music video, while "3rd Rock" even landed features in several renowned indie music blogs like Earmilk and BIRP.fm. More BIO: Barrelly Ego is a German-Romanian singer/songwriter currently based near Berlin, Germany and is Ion's first solo music project after being frontman, lead vocal and founding member of the Cluj-Napoca (Romania) based band Mojo Barrel (currently on an indefinite hiatus). While the Mojo Barrel was being stored in a cool place over the years, Ion decided to keep exploring his creative skills and started working on new material, writing, recording and co- producing new original songs. These are usually defined by melodramatic lyrics, upbeat melodies, mainstream song patterns and are mostly inspired by a continuous search for uncomplicated and unpretentious catharsis, deeply influenced by bands and artists such as Radiohead, Florence+The Machine, Queens Of The Stone Age, Jeff Buckley, Jack White, Black Keys amongst many others. The name Barrelly Ego initially resulted from a play on the words "barely legal", which contrary to what one might think, refers to constantly dealing with the musician’s impostor syndrome that sets in especially when writing a new song. It found its final form after eventually stumbling upon a Leonard Cohen quote (paraphrased earlier here as a motto).

Pleasant Conversation

Barrelly Ego

PC is an indie rock/alt-folk piece drawing its inspiration from the early 2010’s, from bands like Bombay Bicycle Club, Silversun Pickups, Dr. Dog, The Walkmen and so on. Conceptually it is a melancholic yet campy take on the good ol’ quote: “’Tis Better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all” Lyrics: No need for an invitation, you may do as you please No need for an intervention, put your mind at ease Let’s have a pleasant conversation, with no PROs and CONs It will be our little big vacation, allow me this once Now you won, what’s done is done. hope you had fun I can’t think of anyone, who would better at this game It would be a crying shame, if we wouldn’t meet again I’m taking in consideration, you already knew I’m overwhelmed by the situations in which I have to chose Who won, what’s done is done, hope you had fun I can’t think of anyone, who would better at this game It would be a crying shame, if we wouldn’t meet again (again) My heart burns, yours just turns to stone as we are heading home With no loose ends or ruined plans, I’m only questioning your sixth sense, No loose ends or ruined plans Just pretend… That now you won, hope you you had fun what’s done is done I can’t think of anyone, who would be better at this game It would be a crying shame, if we wouldn’t meet again Distract me from my random thoughts Sleep it off don’t make it worse Don’t grab the bull by the horns
