base[records] is delighted to present funkyLFO's debut work entitled “Random.” Have a listen, thank you! “Random,” an EP that presents music with a high degree of randomness. The music is created in two steps: the first part takes place in Usine Hollyhock 5, where the sound tools are created, and the second part in endless jam sessions, in which funkyLFO tries to tame the chaos of the algo tools. The music pieces "Chapters 1–4" are four excerpts from recording sessions, all of which use different, self-developed sound tools within Hollyhock 5.

"Atmospheric Conditions" is the soundtrack of my personal failure "What Are We Waiting For", there is more than enough to do or are we already frozen in "Fear" because the technical solution ("High Tech Evocation") driven by hope or greed, will hardly work. Conditions deteriorate rapidly ("Atmospheric Conditions"), I scream too quietly and in the wrong place ("I Scream Too Quiet"), while in rapture ("Ecstacy") I embrace my "Silent Friend" everything melts ("Ice Shield Melting"). Simple-mindedly I try to reduce my footprint.

When listening to "Never Ever Forever" you don't start an acoustic journey, you are not taken to a far away place musically. It's more like the music pieces reveal the band's working method. "Swells, Layers, Breaks" is an ongoing motto in the band's musical output, the same goes for rasende Schleifen ("Raving Loops"). And bass is also never enough on the recording ("Not Enough Bass"), while some pieces seem to dissolve in the working process ("Rip It Into Pieces of Sound"). "Scremo" is a musical dedication to a distortion tool by Alwin Weber. And then there's always noise interferences in the recording studio ("Electro Magnetic Fields"), full of glitches that trigger something new again. The promise to never do it like that again is fortunately broken regularly ("Never Ever Forever"), only for the last track we couldn't even think of a proper title. "404 C3" is hopefully the ticket code for a long-distance trip, so that The Smiling Buddhas can collect material for aural travelogues again.

Non-Places - A beatless ambient album about monofunctional spaces in urban and suburban areas. In monofunctional places like airports, shopping malls, highways or hotels, an organic, social life is almost impossible, because there we only follow paths ("Follow The Path") or flow through in an orderly fashion ("Transitory Places"). In all these places, our movements, gestures and physical actions are monitored ("Obsessed With Optic Control And Security"). With the help of the "Touch Screen Monitor" we then temporarily leave these places without anchoring to dive into the "Metaverse". Cities like Tulsa, Oklahoma have fifty percent of the urban area designated as parking lots, where each space has only a simple function ("Every Place Is the Same Now"). These are bleak places where the poetics of living do not thrive. When a non-place loses its intended function, a vibrant biotope usually emerges.

Another musical travel guide from The Smiling Buddhas. Most of the tracks are intoxicating techno numbers, but two longer ambient pieces open up multi-layered soundscapes from areas full of myths and lost indigenous cultures.

Phrasemongering - Too much blah blah out there! My head is bursting, unrestrained outpourings of linguistic manure are pouring out of the news feeds - 24-7-365! The phrasemongering („Phrasemongering“) of self-appointed or elected citizens collides with the aberrations ("Error") of cross-thought misconceptions. "Deny, Deflect, Lie, Cheat" is the mantra of our time, as long as we don't think of the world with a soft focus ("The Mind Sings Soft Tones"). It thaws violently where it shouldn't ("After The Thaw") and after the driving rain ("Driving Rain") we practise humility for a moment and then quickly go on as usual without braking. "Blah, Blah, Blah" vs. „Solidarity“, Freundschaft!
