The Legend: It is said that the highest mountain in the Pyrenees is in reallity the tomb of the selfish, evil giant Netú who angered the Gods when he took the life of an old wanderer who was helping the people of the valleys. Another legend says that a powerful sorcerer was ordained by the Gods to build a sacred palace at Monte Perdido's summit, but he died in a confrontation with the giant Netú before completing his quest. Either way, the furious Gods struck the giant with a lightning bolt and buried him beneath a pile of rocks. And thus both legends coalesced into the myth on how the famous Aneto mountain came to existence. Could it be that the old wanderer and the sorcerer were, in fact, the same person?
