Cannoli is a monthly-ish mixtape series featuring whatever I am rocking with at the time. So this is the third year in a row I have attempted to do a Christmas mixtape. The past two years, I did them with my family in mind and tried to do something wholesome with some real Christmas songs. And they were mostly ignored. Probably for good reason, though. Christmas music is pretty awful. There is a reason you hear the same stuff over and over again. The stuff you DON'T hear is pretty bad. Christmas music doesn't get any better than Sharon Jones, Frank Sinatra, and Donny Hathaway. Believe me. I listened to hours of deep-cut Christmas music thinking I was going to screw and chop some obscure hip hop Christmas gems, only found a few (shout out The 69 Boyz, lol) before I was like "this ain't happening" and pivoted to golden era street isht over underground beats. Glad I did though, because I think this tape is dope as hell. Lyrics finally make an appearance in the Cannoli series, with classic joints from Conway, Witchdoctor, The Lox & Big with one of my all time favorite cuts, G. Dep, Memphis Bleek, and some love to Mobb Deep's Juvenile Hell with a bunch of pieces put together for a remix. There is actually a bunch of beat switching and remixing going on throughout the tape; a lot of this is pretty familiar stuff so I wanted to try and see if I could make things fresh. tl;dr: Merry Christmas, Hip Hop. Peace! This is a free tape made strictly for fun. Support the original artists.
