The Journey To Hdur

This first ECHØVEIL offering from British experimental musician Steve Holmes plunges us headfirst into his utterly singular sonic universe: rich, surreal, tormented, immersive, hypnagogic... A sprawling, more than an hour-long river of sound in which deleterious psychedelic noise becomes entangled with haunted dungeon synth / noise apparitions, the noxious exudations of contaminated power electronics and experimental industrial, and vast expanses of cosmic ambient. Steve Holmes invites you on an authentic sonic journey... or perhaps a full-fledged expedition, punctuated by perilous encounters, fantastical and unsettling landscapes, deceptive mirages, grotesque and contorted faces, soot-blackened forests, snow-covered peaks lost within this ever-shifting world, and mist-laden plains awash in enigmatic colours, seemingly conjured from some otherworldly realm of unfathomable antiquity and utterly bizarre nature... A perilous expedition, possibly one from which there is no return, towards that mysterious Hdur, a destination each listener is free to envision in their own peculiar way... Yet one that represents the ultimate culmination of a quest unfolding somewhere between shadows and light. -Sir Kuliktavikt

Prelest

Prelest is the archived output of an installation conceived for, and performed at 2018's Hillscene Live festival in the Dandenong Ranges of Victoria, accompanied by compositions from the artists as individuals which, through no direct involvement, communicate similar themes. Part 1-2 [Side A] comprises the Prelest recordings, for which a strict set of conditions were established: all material should be generated in real-time; the visual element was to be constructed in direct response to the aural component; attention should be directed towards building hypnotic aural/visual stimulus emulating the mystical experience of visionary states. Part 3-4 [Side B] is a collection of recordings made by Clouds Above Chaos in their respective studios for their own edification and the exploration of their own mental processes. The artistic intent of the release is to bring into question the validity of using modern methods of signal generation to induce hypnotic and mystical states of consciousness, and whether exploiting the human brains' tendency towards pareidolia and responding to sensory overload by entering into trance is a useful spiritual tool, or if it only leads to a state of spiritual delusion- the definition of Prelest itself. The listener is invited to temporarily suspend their state of external distraction and listen to the output of these experiments at a volume level just below discomfort, in a state of either visual overstimulation by way of computer-generated geometric visualisations, or having deprived their visual senses entirely by way of sitting in a completely dark room or otherwise diminishing the visual faculty for the duration of the performance. As an extension of the exercise, utilising a method of focus on the breath is also recommended for the duration in order to further align the experiment with the desired field of subjective inquiry.

On Global Echo

Russell's Teapot's contribution to ECHØVEIL's Halloween-esque first anniversary is a little marvel of surreal, distorted dark ambient. A nightmare within a dream within yet another nightmare, unfolding inside the opiate-addled mind of a dying man, injected with a cocktail of synthetic substances as his derailing consciousness hallucinates multiple psychotic / psychedelic incarnations of Hell... An unreal track that slowly carves its own shadowy path beneath a cold metallic shower of austere field recordings, rancid proto-witch house, and dark ambient (with a heavy emphasis on the DARK here), all reeking of freshly deceased flesh. The maggot-spawning worms have only just begun their work on the still-warm carcass. -Sir Kuliktavikt

From Birth to Hell

"This is the water And this is the well. Drink full and descend. The horse is the white of the eyes and dark within." - David Lynch

expressionalist

5 tracks pre-order album The total abandonment of conventional tonal frameworks marks the ultimate nexus where noise, ambient, and abstract expressionism dissolve into a singular monolith. Sonic waves owe absolutely nothing to conditional systems. Sound within a space reclaims its intrinsic worth, totally emancipated from external dogmas and arbitrary rules.

Cradled by a Dead God

Pulsating industrial drones overlayed with harsh, slowly manipulated textures. A dark, atmospheric work based on a process of loosing religious beliefs in confrontation with unforgiving, worldly reality. One of the absolute highlights of the early Gates of Hypnos period.

Welcome to the mind of a real psychopath.

First release by my sideproject.

Creature in the Attic

Weeping. Ancient dust. Starving regrets. The sealed entrance. The attic of crumbling things. A shape. A paw. An ebony dress. Teeth chattering, in the unreal, in the dark. Midnight piano and a mise en abyme. A Betamax copy of a vintage horror film that's just a little too realistic, a little too eerie. You see yourself on screen. And the thing as well. The thing living in the attic. You tremble. And then the same scene again, only reconfigured by a rusted meat grinder. -Sir Kuliktavikt

Whirling Disease

There is no treatment for whirling disease. Whirling disease is not a health risk for humans or pets. Diagnosing whirling disease requires laboratory testing. People can spread whirling disease. Whirling disease can cause death. Dark ambient, drone, and harsh noise soundscapes to hyper-stimulate and immobilize. ADHD sucks ass. Your body gets jammed in neutral while your brain pins the accelerator until you either run out of gas, or something breaks and you come screeching to a stop even though you haven't left a small corner of the couch, curled up half-upside down for the last 17 hours. Or three days. This is what it's like to feel yourself falling to pieces, to know something is breaking, to being completely unable to stop it from happening, and having to still do the fucking laundry when it's all over.

Zvukoprostor #2
