An Obituary for A.S. (dedicated to the sound genius Alan Splet)
It sounds like a house of crushed glass spinning inside an antimatter vortex, installed in an inverted echo chamber, lodged in Salvador Dalí’s crystal nostril, sealed within the coffin of a damned homeless man, dressed in a shirt stitched from smoked human flesh, lit by a cigarette that is alive and refuses extinction.
This description is inaccurate.
All descriptions are.
Why is the baby crying?
Why are the dogs barking?
Why is the water electric?
Why is the piano speaking to my dreams?
Have you ever been to Crouch End?
Corridors without exits.
Rooms catalogued but never entered.
The human black hole in my garden wants to lick the flesh from my bones.
Paranoia becomes procedural.
Alan is smiling from beyond the grave.
