Through a broken window I could see the graveyard. The earth had been disturbed. Skeletal hands protruded from the soil, vomited upward by ground too full of viscera and memory, pleading toward a sky that had long since ceased to be merciful. Above them hung a spoiled yellow-purple heaven. And all the dead were moaning. Ancient ones, dry with centuries. Recent ones, still wet. Together they formed an anti-prayer of miserable noise — the litany of a Death that no longer wants its dead and has begun spitting them back into a world abandoned equally by saints and devils. Here and there, a diffuse light quietly pierces the fog, illuminating suspended landscapes of fragile emotion before disappearing once more into the haze. An inward work. A patient work. J'ai vidé les moins dix mille fontaines de Javex sirupeuse qui irriguaient les destins mourants des prêtres de papier froissé. Le liquide désinfectait les souvenirs des choses qui n'avaient jamais existé (et qui n'existeront jamais) Alors je me suis mis à me manger. À me boire. À me dormir. Chaque organe possédait sa propre recette. Le foie se dégustait avec une moutarde de maux. Les côtes étaient marinées dans des calendriers carbonisés. Le cœur mijotait dans le chaudron des leurres. Chaque morceau de peau somnolait dans un hamac tissé avec les cendres pharaoniques des trépassés liminaux. Quelqu'un avait glissé un cachet d'argile dans la narine d'un Dalí infesté de vipères. Mes yeux firent PLOP. Ils fondirent l'un dans l'autre jusqu'à devenir une boisson tiède que le plafond but lentement. Il ne resta qu'un peu de diction. Elle s'étala sur un toast souriant.
