Fading Beacons: Selected Ambient Works from 2016-2026

10 track albumFading Beacons is a curated selection of ambient and cinematic works created between 2016 and 2026. Across nine tracks and more than 100 minutes of music, the collection traces a path through distant stations, northern wastelands, quiet departures, fading signals and imagined spaces. Some of these pieces found their audience gradually over the years. Others remained more hidden, but became important early markers of the sound that would later evolve into 52 North. This is not intended as a comprehensive retrospective. It is a carefully assembled entry point: a selection of edited and remixed works, based upon the most played and downloaded songs on various music platforms. A curated selection of that still feel connected by the same underlying atmosphere: melancholy, distance, slow movement and the search for small signals within large spaces. The collection includes Distant Beacons, a new 52 North piece that points toward the next chapter, as well as the previously unreleased early archive track First Memories. Fading Beacons looks back, but it is not an ending. It is a transition from earlier releases under my own name toward the emerging world of 52° North.

Original compositions alternate with synth reinterpretations of pieces by Couperin, Händel and Bach. Parts of this album were featured on the Chapo Trap House podcast's historical series about the Thirty Years' War, 'Hell on Earth'.

Another strong opus to put between our ears, you my friends who just love a Berlin School lively and invigorated by another artist who manages to make his place with a bit of freshness in this universe where even the plagiarism is attractive to the ears of aficionados. From the Berlin School this music from Scab sounds, with TD-like sequences (seventies till early eighties), also marked by "early-Jarre" touches like in "Lighthouse". The seven tracks are good for almost an hour of pleasant, melodious EM, of which especially "Dace", certainly in the first part, and also the number "Dizziness" reminds of the period "Stratosfear" by TD: catchy sequences, nice effects and less emphasis on plain little melodies. The title track is built up fine, it has an undeniable Southern touch and starts in dark atmospheres. Also the sixth piece "Ablaze" has a Middle-East influence and true enough, these are not my favorite tracks but certainly the most original. Listen to the exceedingly intriguing guitar synthesizer part, played by Odracir Lavid. Here and there rhythm is present, yet not dominating and certainly not fit for the dance floor, so that we hear a Spanish TD-clone working, with here and there an Eastern "trace".
