Here is the auditory explanation — intended to be exhaustive — of barking and confinement. The anatomy of a frequency trapped between the bars, the pattern of broken chains holding back the final surges toward the worst, the measurement of the restraints on our yelps, the fictions of contained projections, and the volitional acts of biting. The threat, probing the darkness, lurks deep within the caged booths — suddenly letting escape a prolonged, emaciated, and deafening scream. And in a moment of lucidity, this call — born of a prolonged state of isolation and alienation — was intensely powerful, yet at the same time, it carried an inescapable tendency toward degeneration.
After a long and transcendantal introduction — a ritualized mise en abyme punctuated by the creaks and rumblings emerging from the darkness— CheniL plunges us into a noisy tidal wave where every burst of sound and every silence has a precisely calculated impact, where every crash and every sigh is skillfully measured and delivered to the split second, in the service of a quest for the absolute in the abstract and deconstruction. Just as the Earth orbits the sun, we are doomed to spin endlessly in this howling circle, this canine hutch where the sound of claws on concrete and the clacking of teeth against the bars have become the norm.
CheniL, founded in 2023 by Bubu Pagier (Urge, Bavoir, Grifu with Erik from Sister Iodine...) and Robin Dufour (Coaltar, Stoned Diplodocus...), is a sonic exploration where gestures, jerks, and crackles intertwine in this noise-oriented project.
