When we released the debut ate album MCCV two years ago, we were sure Petar Petkov would be back on Amek sooner or later. His chamber drone music has drawn from the wells of both classical composition and modern-day guitar-based ambient and shoegaze. “Secondary Drowning” is melancholic and drifting, but far from being as fragile as ate’s earlier works. This is due not only to the tighter writing Petkov’s showing in his second album, but to a thicker and more massive production. This was handled by Studio148’s very own Marius Costache, who’s no stranger to both heavy and atmospheric experimental sound.
