I started working on 'Sublime Lenteur' around October 2024, it was a very grey and cloudy winter full of change and searching, I started doing these long and solitary walks in the woods, just fog, snow, rain, being there with myself, with hopes and sadness and connection and nature falling asleep with the promise of a wonderful return. and this album really became that. the season and my mind state really influenced this more than previous work. A friend called this, if translated into English, the amazing slowness. She hit the nail on the head. I would get back from these walks and directly continue working on an idea, so I was living these really wonderful moments where I had this rare feeling of being able to directly translate something into my work. This bubble of creation. It made me reflect on why I love so much to make sounds, why it means so much to me and what I feel needs to exist in it.
Europe is in flames and much of the world is in chaos. Take refuge in our sonic sanctuary... ONE is the début collaboration from Jason Wach and Hamish Low. EUROPE IN FLAMES is an attempt to capture something of the zeitgeist, of what can be seen of the world from these distant shores. Recorded and produced in the depths of the southern hemisphere winter. Hamish on piano Jason on synths, sound design and mastering. 11/11/2025 - Between Sound and Space: ECM Records and Beyond ecmreviews.com/2025/11/11/europe-in-flames-one/ "The album’s surreal brilliance lies in how it blurs the distinction between sound and memory, between the present and its ghosts. When archival voices or cinematic fragments surface, as in a clip from 12 Angry Men, they don’t feel sampled so much as resurrected. They reach us as if from another planet, their gravity warped, their meaning refracted. And yet, because of this distance, they cut deeper. Like nightowls who swear by the strange clarity that arrives when the sun has vanished and the world sleeps, they are most alive in that hour when thought loosens its grip. But ONE is not of the night. It lives in that trembling, liminal moment just before dawn, when the first blue light begins to touch the earth. This is music for that boundary state between remembering and forgetting" - Tyran Grillo
