Escape from Gattaca
Far Beats and Tokyo-based producer Super Samir open
the Cross-Remix Series with its first installment, a
collaborative framework built on reinterpretation, contrast,
and cross-continental dialogue.
Escape from Gattaca arrives as a sharply focused drum &
bass statement: 165 BPM, cerebral in construction, driven
by precision and tension, with melodic fragments that carry
the weight of memory. Super Samir's counterpart remix
pulls the track into breakbeat territory at 140 BPM, weaving
in analog saturation and Paris atmosphere samples to
reshape the original's architecture into something looser,
more textured, and unmistakably his own.
Escape from Gattaca is at once a sonic and visual work, a
project designed to pull listeners headfirst into the
experience of a narrow escape from Gattaca's confines,
launching into open space for the very first time. Speed,
uncertainty, liberation: all of it rendered in sound and
image.
What emerges is a conversation between structure and
fluidity, between genres, between two cities and the first
move in an ongoing exchange that shows no signs of
settling. The two artists first crossed paths in Tokyo's
underground club scene in the early 2000s, and today,
separated by over 10,000 kilometres, continue to push
each other's music into new territory.
