Surface

This record does not represent a landscape. It listens to it. Frequencies are treated as terrain. Noise as residue. Sound as the result of contact between matter and electricity. What emerges is not music, but a surface being scanned, slowly, imperfectly, without interpretation. - Tansoku

EXU3DC

WATCH THE VIDEO FOR "PROTOSTELLAR CORE | E4XUDC" on YouTube: https://tinyurl.com/24wfw4pf In EXU3DC, Baltimore-based sound designer and electronic innovator User Friendly, and New York virtuoso guitarist-composer Álvaro Domene come together to craft and embody a sound-world that is both strikingly intricate and emotionally resonant. This four-track release is a masterful confluence of digital precision, creativity, and organic expression, where synthesizers and electronic instruments intertwine with live guitar performance to create a listening experience that strikes as cutting-edge, visionary, cerebral and palpably human, through a dense and immersive journey that feels like much more than its modest length might suggest. At just four compositions, EXU3DC feels remarkably expansive, with each piece offering a vast wealth of mature ideas and sonic detail that invite repeated listening sessions, moving fluidly between and through different electronic and acoustic music traditions, glitch, ambient, avant-garde jazz, and even post-metal territories, resulting in a beautifully unpredictable dialogue, a back-and-forth where tension and release feel like the album’s heartbeat. At Iluso, we cannot recommend this music enough, and are eager to hear what comes next from the duo. Iluso Records, December 2024.

A Good Day for a Remix

A Good Day for a Remix is the result of several years of collaboration with electronic artists from six different time zones. I think I'm honestly more excited about this release than anything I've put out before. Each artist has taken one of my tracks and turned it into something truly unique to their personal style, which I think really highlights the power that comes with collaboration, which, to me, is often something greater than the individual can achieve in isolation. Although we come from different parts of the world and work in different electronic genres, I believe we all have something in common, and that is the power of music to bring people together and communicate our humanity. I hope you enjoy this album. So much thanks to everyone who participated and for having been a part of my musical journey over the last six years.

The Getaway

13 track album, released September 14, 2026 as free (cc) digital download and in beautiful limited CD edition. Unterm Rad is the electronic music of media artist and producer Mike Slansky. His music is information-rich and crafted with painstaking detail, characterized by bold, complex percussion with deep layers of texture and atmosphere. An early recruit of Tympanik Audio, Slansky went on to co-found the Point Source Electronic Arts record label and creative community. Alongside this work, he is a performer in the groups REKT, Mesaverde, and Tokataur, known for frequent collaborations and remixes with friends & fellow creators: Hecq (Ben Lukas Boysen), Ginormous, Anatoly Grinberg (Tokee), Mark Spybey (DVOA), Access to Arasaka, The Fellow Passenger, Room of Wires, among many more. And now after a warm welcome to the roster, Mahorka presents Unterm Rad's latest album, "The Getaway". Composed entirely of short instrument clips & other sounds provided in Point Source's "Genome" sample kit, each carefully edited, processed and sequenced, evolving into something new. No synthesizers, AI or any other sound sources were employed in making this, in the spirit of the "Genome" open source project. "The Getaway" is a series of rapid, erratic chases through tightly packed, dim narrow alleyways, with danger waiting around every jagged corner. But press on, the way out is through. Now available from Mahorka: 13-track CD / digital album, featuring remixes by Access to Arasaka, Evaluation Copy, Vaag, Feederwire, Hexalyne, and Cole. [mhrk508]

ADAPAR

"Thirty-five minutes of unfettered brutality." - Andrey Henkin, Brooklyn Rail (brooklynrail.org/2023/02/music/Blood-Brothers) "Álvaro Domene and Álvaro Pérez are two musicians that I highly regard and respect. They’ve released incredible music, time and time again. Previously, the two released Zodos and Radical Accretion, but now they’re back with a new project: Adapar. This project takes the furious improvisations the two are known for and digitizes them along with electronic instruments and production; a new sort of jazzgrind rarely seen before. It’s not something you’d want to put during a dinner with some friends, unless they have been thoroughly and expressly forewarned of the incoming intrusion. But, I’m encouraging you to listen to it for yourself first and foremost." - Dave Tremblay

Álvaro Domene NOT ARBITRARY

9 track album "Not Arbitrary scratches a lot of my itches. I’ve listened to it tens of times because it’s like a key that unlocks a part of my soul that I don’t get to commune with often. It’s so weird to write this about an album that others will hear as noise, but the sheer fact that it exists makes me feel less alone. Somewhere in this world that seems to prioritize separation and destruction of community, resulting in an irrepressible loneliness wracking our brains and bodies that are starved for connection, there’s someone out there making music that I can relate to. The older I get, with the wrinkles of my alienating idiosyncrasies growing ever deeper, that feels more and more miraculous." - Ian Chainey, Stereogum

Álvaro Domene RAPID INFLUX

"Rapid Influx is as if Autechre commandeered Botch and forced Dave Knudson to make a jazz record. Needless to say, no one else is making music like this." - Ian Chainey (Stereogum). "A wild and busy foray into a shattered, abstracted world, the listener is freely propelled through IDM, technical death metal guitar, glitching loops and icy computer noise. This is music to listen THRU as much as it is to listen to. Kingston-based artist Álvaro Domene is one of the most inventive and hyper-productive guitarist-composers in the world. With each addition to his discography, his methods and sounds have evolved exponentially into ever more nuanced aggressive visions which are realized in the form of sweeping and vast musical landscapes. Every second of every piece on Rapid Influx feels like another massive bomb detonating. The sound of the tracks here (and on other releases) is that of fractured sonic debris whizzing past your ears from every direction. Think Venetian Snares meets Atheist but about 100x more intense and you get somewhat of an idea of the character of Rapid Influx. It's an overwhelming but highly rewarding experience to these ears at least! I'm giddy every time Álvaro shares something new with the world and enjoy having my head smashed by their brilliance like one of Gallagher's unfortunate watermelons. Furthermore, the label he uses to release items - Iluso Records - has an impressive roster of likeminded incendiary artists that includes Henry Kaiser, Harvey Valdes, Álvaro Perez, Briggan Krauss and Colin Marston to name a few. If anyone is wondering, my favorite of the seven tracks here is "Shaken Out of Lethargy" which could nearly sum up the experience of encountering any of Álvaro's recent work." Compositions, seven string electric guitar and drum computer-sampler: Álvaro Domene Audio engineered by Domene at Singularity Studio (Kingston, New York), September-December 2022.

ADAPAR 3: ÖPIK TRANSMISSION

"ADAPAR, the duo of multi-instrumentalist Álvaro Domene and saxophonist Álvaro Pérez, feels so far ahead of the rest of modern music, like a peek through a tear in the space-time continuum, a demented dimension where Autechre, John Zorn, and Fredrik Thordendal are united by breakcore. Weasel Walter, no stranger to using the fringe of music as a bungee rope, called it a "disorienting duet of fractured fax-machine glitch-babble," and, really, who am I to argue with Weasel Walter? Longtime readers know I'm a Domene disciple, so you cannot quarrel with me when I call 3: Öpik Transmission that good, good stuff. Like past works, it's a lot, often all at the same time; thus, begone, normal people. You bet, this thing will shed your tin-eared, fairweather friends faster than a shaggy husky brushing past your black pants. Some folks aren't ready for the future. That said, there's something so now about what ADAPAR has achieved. Check out "The Value Of Vision." Squiggly information eternally pours out of a spigot that can't be turned off, and then, beneath the noise, big, foreboding guitar chugs rumble like thunder on the horizon. When was the last time you felt something like that? Probably today, probably while reading the news." - Ian Chainey (AKA Wolf Rambatz)

Álvaro Domene CONTRADICTIONS

6 track album "Collisions and Contradictions are fine examples of the ineffable sensations that Domene’s music evokes. The related sets are named quite literally, letting metal, jazz, and electronic elements, among other touchstones, smash together like particle beams in an accelerator. What’s produced can be quite contradictory and even disarmingly alien. Take “Fierce Universalism,” Collisions’ opener. With its body-blow beats, skittering solos, and metallic chugs, it’s like a computer trying to recover a Blotted Science song lost on a severely fragmented drive. However, unlike some self-consciously experimental releases that come off as a skunkworks produced solely for other musicians, Collisions and Contradictions have something else swimming around in the soup of the neat noises. In a sense, it’s the trademark touch of all of Domene’s releases: These songs are teeming with life, imbued with the human experience. They’re less a didactic exercise in theoretical possibilities and more like someone showing you the inner workings of their mind." - Stereogum
