Séance

We found a dusty Ouija board marked with strange symbols in our basement. The symbols aren't of this world, yet the instructions are clear: there is an entity waiting on the other side. The other side of what? We follow the instructions and place our hands upon the planchette. The board shifts as we ask for the entity's name. O... I... S... Or at least, that's what we think it's trying to spell. The planchette slips away from the letters and moves toward the numerals. It stops on 6. We try again. 6. and again... 6. We suddenly hear a voice rising from beneath the subfloor: "Hello mortals ... the séance is now complete." ~ What better way to kick off spooky season than a "Séance" with Ois! and Black Magic Recordings? "Séance" starts with a propulsive and elastic bassline gliding over a shuffling 4x4 beat. Sharp vocal samples stick in your brain through clever use of pitch bending and... more credits released October 15, 2026 Composed, recorded, and mixed by Ois! Selected Breakbeat Works Vol. 2 (2020-2026)

A collection of tracks full of chunky drums, squelchy acid lines, big old basslines and various other bits and bobs. Going from full-pelt old school rave numbers to dark and eerie ambience with rattly breaks. I’d originally put down the music production tools in early 2005 after the release of Wake Up on Breaks4Ever after deciding to take a break. I thought that was it for me production wise but in 2020, like the rest of the world, I had some extra time on my hands. I had some ideas for new music and with some nudging, inspiration and technical assistance from the always brilliant Everyday Dust I decided to finally learn Ableton (unfortunately I had to move on from my beloved Modplug Tracker due to not having a Windows machine). Huge thanks to him for the constant support, positivity and advice as I worked through all these tracks. This album is a collection of all the music I’ve put out since 2020 and every track has been lovingly mastered by the brilliant Shell Yeah Audio. Thanks as always for adding that extra sparkle and bringing out parts of the tracks that I hadn’t even really noticed myself. Thanks to my E for the brilliant photograph that forms the artwork. If it was worth doing the “Selected Works” gag once it was worth doing it twice. You can hear the first volume here - paulreset.bandcamp.com/album/selected-breakbeat-works-2000-2005

Summer

Summer is the second chapter of Season, a project in four acts: one EP per season over an entire year, each composed during the season it documents. This summer ran long, and so did the record. It lands in late October, still carrying the heat. Where Spring drifted through water, downtempo, ambient and granular textures, Summer moves to the body: sweat, heat, motion. At its core is broken beat, that West London science of the off-kilter groove, here pulled south and left out in the sun. Sometimes raw, sometimes jazzy. Endless Summer opens the record and takes its time. It is a long summer day where time goes elastic, a broken beat / deep house nod to Kool & The Gang's Summer Madness. Gotta Have You and Rewind turn darker and bass-heavy, raw and unpolished, inspired by IG Culture: the sound of bodies moving under pressure. They carry the weight of the exceptional heatwave that hit France this summer, relentless in Marseille. Sol and Cala Piscona close at sunset: still broken beat, jazzier and smoother, the moment the city finally exhales.

Selected Breakbeat Works (2000-2005)

A collection of breakbeat numbers, occasionally on a dark tip. The photo was originally taken at a flat party in 2000, names have been changed to protect the innocent. All tracks written between 2000 and 2005.
