sorry for the delay. i had been on a creative block for a while. this album is the filtered tracks of a LOT that i wrote. different from the previous ep, unmarked, and the previous deleted ep (because it was nonsense), clouds feel heavy, i didn't put straight influences in my mind while making it. sure, i had influences- i can name a major one for each song- but it wasn't as much a big deal as it had been. and i think that helped me with the creative block. this ep, i think, is one more step further on my path to indie glory. and another love letter to the things i listen to. "occasionally" is the most unmarked-lite song here. it has got all of the fall breaks stuff- shoegazey guitars (is it a stretch? i will assume not), post-punkish rhythm section, catchy melody... "with your eyes" is a funny song- i had already decided it was rubbish and was going to leave it rotting in my hard drive, until i found myself singing it. countless times. it is catchy as hell. i had to leave it in. you people can tell me what you think about it. i MEAN that. send me an e-mail: [email protected] feedback is always good. so are other e-mail subjects. "somehow" was my attempt at a "velocity girl" / "what you do to me" type of song. you gotta love an economic pop song. and "everybody knows i've gotta grow up", as i discuss further in the individual description, is inspired by acoustic radio session bootlegs from the late 90s, from artists such as noel gallagher and richard ashcroft (okay, primarily these two). i hope it was worth the wait. not just your wait, but my wait. i missed fall breaks, man.
Running in at 50 minutes 'It's Time to Bounce, Amigo!' is a shorter and sweeter affair compared to the self-titled sister album released earlier this year. The goal this time around was to challenge myself a little bit and create an album with shorter catcher songs and have me singing on every track (no filler all killer!). I wanted to get this done before I moved to Miami so I was in a bit of a time crunch but I think I did a good job with the time and resources I had. I am especially proud of songs like melting world and the title track, really proud of how I layered my vocal harmonies on those tracks =D I was influenced more by punk and dance acts this time around with the likes of Pixies, Shellac, Lizzy Mercier Descloux, and Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft being on my mind when working on this project. I wanted this album to reflect my taste a little bit and show the breath of what I can do. It's a little proggy, It's a little industrial, It's a little groovy, and it's a little bit crass! To be honest my life since moving here has been pretty hectic so far with me trying to find a part-time job and going to FIU fulltime so I'm not sure when I'll return to the John Titor moniker. I want to integrate myself in the south Florida music scene and start collaborating with more people and doing that will obviously take more of my free time away. I feel obligated to at least release one more album under this stage name and wrap up things in a nice bow. Whenever I find my routine and settle in I'll hopefully be back running this time machine in a jiffy but we'll see. Only time will tell! This track is meant to represent the position I was in years ago. It's a reflective piece, for loving the comfort of the relationship more than the person. It's one of things you don't realize until hindsight, just because it becomes your norm and thinking about it would disrupt your status quo. I chose a lamp because, I thought it'd be a good correlation where, yeah I guess my lamp is cool but I like my lamp because it gives light. Not because it's a lamp but what the lamp does for me. Artwork was done by the super talented @ruthileblue on instagram. Go check out her work she's awesome. This track was heavily inspired by the j rock band Mass of Fermenting Dregs, the Korean shoegaze artist Parannoul, and the Singaporean band Blush. Check out my profile for more codes! Happy to re-release Sentinel! I first released this EP exactly a year ago, and since then I have vastly improved as a performer and producer. The result is a revamped version of this little EP that oozes attitude. Expect soaring highs, deep lows, distorted guitars and melodic basslines all within an almost 13 minute runtime.
