The return of this mysterious entity with the third solo offering: a rite of disintegration - seductively frail yet utterly devastating available on UA's bandcamp at: unknownartistbm.bandcamp.com/album/untitled-3 --- "Is it possible that existence is our exile and nothingness our home?" — Emil Cioran I caught a glimpse of the final dream-death. It waited within a forgotten forest whose barren crowns pierced the highest reaches of despair. An amorphous mist drifted between the trees, no longer reflecting anything that had ever possessed a name. Only disappearance. Only the slow privilege of fading alongside the dying elements. The confusion of ash-days. Verdigris mornings. The same exhausted sky unfolding above the same exhausted earth. Loss becoming the last remaining landmark. Those endless solitary walks whose only destination is the absence from which they secretly began. The skeletal trees welcome our already-moribund remains with perfect indifference. For a brief moment... To unexist. To inhabit, with unbearable clarity, the magnificent futility of being. This is the landscape Unknown Artist unveils through another untitled manifestation: a world where dark ambient, black ambient, lo-fi neoclassical elegies, raw black metal, and crushing silence dissolve into one another until they become indistinguishable. Repetitive piano figures seep like infected memories. Distorted textures gather at the edge of perception. Beneath the black earth, buried cries continue their patient liturgy while roots tighten around the wandering soul, drawing it gently downward toward whatever preceded birth. Nothing here seeks consolation. Nothing asks to be understood. Only to accompany you through that strange hour when the world begins forgetting your name... and you quietly begin forgetting that it was ever yours. -Sir Kuliktavikt
Savannah is a legendary city. The spirit of the south of the 1700s still has an ominous presence in its streets as well as nearly 300 years of ghosts since. This is the world Philip Polk Palmer captures on Here in the Deadlights, a loving tribute to his hometown. Influenced by bands like Joy Division, The Church, The Reds, Nick Cave & the Badseeds, Echo & the Bunnymen, & Bauhaus; Palmer takes post punk & shoegaze & melancholy pop & mixes them with the ghosts, hopes, legends, & life of Savannah. “Down the River,” “Better in the Books,” & “Frog Strangler” all come from standpoint of the old men of Savannah, those who’ve lost friends & fingers to alligators & view the tourists & newcomers with disgust. “Apparition,” “The Call,” & “Embryonic Language Pilgrims” capture both the melancholic & hopeful spirit of the city. “Joyride,” “Seeing Stars,” & “Goodbye” tell personal tales of the current generation’s adventures. Hear the call & enjoy the joyride as Philip Polk Palmer takes you on an aural tour of one of the south’s great cities.
