An Autogrill is an Italian highway service area, a rest stop you find along major roads and motorways in Italy.
Italians associate “autogrill” to road trips, late-night drives, family vacations, long-haul truckers, and that in-between feeling of being neither here nor there.
"The autogrill rises like an island of light in the darkness of the highway, suspended between departures and returns that never quite come to completion. The glass walls reflect tired headlights and passing faces, people who brush past one another without ever truly meeting. Inside, the smell of burnt coffee and lukewarm sandwiches blends with distant music, always the same, like a memory that never changes.
Outside, trucks sleep in a line, massive and silent, while the wind sets the neon signs humming softly. It is a place that holds on to no one, yet keeps everything: the nostalgia of those who are leaving, the weariness of those returning, and that subtle melancholy of those who, for a few minutes, have stopped without quite knowing why."
