She dug with her hands. She dug until her fingers bled. Then she kept digging. The world had broken her spirit. She was done with it. She wanted the dark, quiet, uncaring indifference of the soil. She wanted to be where nothing was expected of her. She wanted to become something which no one expects anything from. She lay down in the hole she had dug, covered herself in soil and pulled the layer of grass she had previously dug up over herself like a blanket. She hoped to disappear. She expected to disappear. Instead, something appeared. She felt warmth coming up from the ground. Then came the roots slithering towards her through the soil, moving slowly and deliberately, the way that roots always do. She felt them wrapping around her ankles, then her wrists and finally her neck. She knew she should be afraid but she was too tired for fear. She did not fight back. The soil filled her lungs and she breathed it. She had crawled into the Earth to become nothing. But the Earth had other plans. Now she felt herself becoming... more. Seconds became minutes, minutes became hours, hours became days, days became months and months became seasons. Then she became the seasons. By the following winter she could feel every tree above her as an extension of herself. She felt their thirst, their stillness, and their complete ignorance of suffering and malice. She had wanted indifference so badly... ... But somehow, she felt that something, for the first time, had truly noticed her.
Artwork by Nuno Lourenço. Check out his work here: www.facebook.com/PreposterousArtForTheDifferenciated This is an early release. Started this around noon today and have been working on this almost the whole day. I will probably change some stuff (composition-wise) and work on the sound a bit more, adjusting the volume and such... "The acolytes live in the Folóï oak forest where they devote their lives to serving Nature’s spirits. When the forest is threatened by outsiders, they are swayed by the power and allure of Erebos, the God of darkness and shadow, who promises to protect them and their way of life. In exchange for their devotion, Erebos grants them more power but over time their spirits and even the forest around them — the very thing they seek to preserve — are corrupted by his malice. They hold onto their memories of the bright spirits and their lost harmony with nature. They long for their old ways but are trapped in Erebos' hold... forever?"
Dvali is the complete suppression of activity over long periods of time for conservation of energy. It is the quiet approaching of stillness, sustained across intervals too long to be experienced as a duration. Time floats away, as if it had never been here. There is no resistance. There is no tension held against the cold. Nothing is waiting to be resumed. A complete withdrawal from the very premise of wakefulness, shedding processes until what remains cannot be called presence. Energy is preserved through the abolition of need. To listen is to consent to an experience that resists consciousness.
