European Drought & undumë
The Cinema of the Last Gasp (located in a derelict, dust-choked and crumbling district) invites you to a most exquisite double feature, delightfully ripe with decay!
First up: Nadja (Michael Almereyda, 1994), the highly stylized, sexy neo-noir horror flick co-produced by David Lynch, is elevated to new nocturnal heights by a fresh soundtrack from Irish project European Drought, weaving obtuse, mist-shrouded and opaque atmospheric layers. A perfect fit for the dreamlike cynicism of this arthouse cult classic.
Up next: the one and only House on Haunted Hill (William Castle, 1958), masterfully reimagined in sound by English dungeon synth / noise / ambient black metal project undumë. What begins in a libidinous, grief-stricken haze gradually mutates into layers of noise and passages of gothic-surrealist keyboard. Lovely.
Enjoy the screening. Enjoy the listening. And remember: when the show is over, payment is due in blood.
