I started working on 'Sublime Lenteur' around October 2024, it was a very grey and cloudy winter full of change and searching, I started doing these long and solitary walks in the woods, just fog, snow, rain, being there with myself, with hopes and sadness and connection and nature falling asleep with the promise of a wonderful return. and this album really became that. the season and my mind state really influenced this more than previous work. A friend called this, if translated into English, the amazing slowness. She hit the nail on the head. I would get back from these walks and directly continue working on an idea, so I was living these really wonderful moments where I had this rare feeling of being able to directly translate something into my work. This bubble of creation. It made me reflect on why I love so much to make sounds, why it means so much to me and what I feel needs to exist in it.

Seabuckthorn

Spanning nearly two decades, Andy Cartwright's exquisite output under the name Seabuckthorn requires little fanfare. Having relocated from the UK to the French Alps in the late twenty-tens, a plethora of battle-scarred guitars remain as Cartwright's main toolset. Yet, Seabuckthorn has subtly evolved from the primitive, Fahey-esque style of his earlier works (In Nightfall), through more experimental folk iterations heavily reliant on bowed strings and minimal percussive elements (They Haunted Most Thickly, Turns, A House With Too Much Fire). Reaching its most refined and sublime stage came as Cartwright began forging hymns of wood and steel that felt more at home on a mountain top than concealed inside some dank cathedral, shifting towards a deep droning, minimalistic approach (Other Other, Inlandscape). Lost Tribe Sound recalled a past conversation had with Cartwright, asking him to one day return with an album full of rhythm-laden work. Nearly ten years on from the release of 'Turns' on LTS, he has gifted us with 'Never the Same River.' The title was born from Cartwright's weekly ritual of walking the same mountain route and each time noticing small differences in the landscape. This led him to the famous quote, "No one ever steps in the same river twice, for they are not the same person, and it is not the same river."

And I sing again. This time I won’t whisper,
 because this time it’s for you. I hear about you on the radio,
 and I’ve seen the pictures of the boss and his henchmen—
Hatred and determination in their eyes.
 Their actions leave no doubt:
 to them, you are garbage.
 The history that came before echoes faintly.
 And here, routine carries on.
 On the radio, 
a broadcast of your silence. 
 'A Broadcast of Your Silence' came about almost by accident, after several failed attempts to write for solo double bass.
 It turns out Rafa Ramos Sania needed more than just technique —he needed an emotional spark. The trigger was the constant stream of war and violence Ramos kept hearing on the radio. Then, over the course of just four days, these pieces emerged. Each track was composed in a single day, driven by the same emotional current. There’s no virtuosity or ornamentation — just a double bass in dialogue with sonic landscapes built from Sania's archival recordings of the instrument itself, as well as field recordings, detuned radio sounds, and gentle electronics. Yoal

YOAL was formed through a long‑distance exchange between Scottish musician Euan Alexander Millar‑McMeeken and Japanese artist Satomimagae, who first connected through a mutual admiration for each other’s work. Their relationship began when Euan invited Satomi to remix a Glacis track for his album Interpretations—a small gesture that opened an unexpected line of communication. What started as a simple artistic request soon grew into an ongoing correspondence, shaped by everyday observations, and a growing curiosity about each other’s cultural environments. Over time, this steady exchange built a quiet but deep sense of trust. As their dialogue evolved, so too did their music. Drawing unconsciously and then more deliberately on the traditional folk languages of their respective homes, their collaboration became a meeting point between English and Japanese sensibilities. Melodic phrasing, pacing, and tone echo folk traditions from both cultures—not through imitation, but through shared values of simplicity, repetition, and emotional honesty. 'Gloaming' emerges from this crossing of paths: a record shaped as much by correspondence and cultural exchange as by sound. Distance becomes connective rather than divisive, allowing English and Japanese influences to sit side by side, fused into a single, understated musical voice defined by patience, intimacy, and care.

Threshold of Light inhabits the fragile interval between disappearance and emergence. It unfolds in the moment when night has begun to recede, yet morning remains unseen, a space suspended, uncertain, and quietly charged. These sounds linger around what cannot yet be defined: the slow withdrawal of darkness, the first imperceptible shift in the air, the faint pull of something approaching, not yet formed. There is no arrival here, only the tension of becoming, a listening into what is about to exist. Rather than describing dawn, Threshold of Light lingers at its edge, exploring transformation as a state of waiting. A record shaped by stillness, duration, and subtle movement, it invites the listener to remain within that threshold, where endings dissolve and beginnings have not yet taken shape.
