Summer

Summer is the second chapter of Season, a project in four acts: one EP per season over an entire year, each composed during the season it documents. This summer ran long, and so did the record. It lands in late October, still carrying the heat. Where Spring drifted through water, downtempo, ambient and granular textures, Summer moves to the body: sweat, heat, motion. At its core is broken beat, that West London science of the off-kilter groove, here pulled south and left out in the sun. Sometimes raw, sometimes jazzy. Endless Summer opens the record and takes its time. It is a long summer day where time goes elastic, a broken beat / deep house nod to Kool & The Gang's Summer Madness. Gotta Have You and Rewind turn darker and bass-heavy, raw and unpolished, inspired by IG Culture: the sound of bodies moving under pressure. They carry the weight of the exceptional heatwave that hit France this summer, relentless in Marseille. Sol and Cala Piscona close at sunset: still broken beat, jazzier and smoother, the moment the city finally exhales.

Kumanope lives through the season while making it, and the release surfaces at the moment it closes. The seasons influence what he listens to, his production moods, the way he consumes music. Season is the musical transcription of this permeability. Spring opens the cycle. The sonic world of Spring is anchored in a founding image: water. The primary condition for all life. Round, fluid, organic. Granular FX synthesis produces a texture that breathes and shifts. An oneiric and luminous electronica / ambient, steeped in early 90s downtempo trance, where the tracks interact, sounding like a living, welcoming ecosystem you want to dive into.
