Orisit's debut EP, The Beginning, is a dreamy, melodically rich affair that melds floaty psych, moody prog/art rock, indie, and alternative, taking your mind far out while welcoming your soul home. Within, Orisit evokes the candid feelings of experiencing the complicated, flawed nature of life and love, where each challenge is met with vigorous reprisal. The opener, Peace, feels like chasing a new love through a warm summer shower, slipping and sliding, puddles exploding onto each other with each step. Good Life is an unfiltered meditation on the push and pull of a challenging relationship leading to mutual triumph and acquiescence to the sometimes taxing weight of love. The Cycle is a nearly 11 minute epic tale of a time-traveling couple who experience the birth, life, death, and rebirth of the universe countless times together and, despite having seen it all together--the thrills, the horrors, the longing, the existential boredom--reaffirm their desire to do it yet again. These stories are buttressed by rich multipart harmonies over layers of soaring electric guitars, soulful acoustic guitars, keyboards, mellotron swells, bombastic drums, peaks and ebbs, and the painful questions that suffuse our inexorable momentum through the cycles of life and death. Fans of detailed, expansive progressive/psychedelic rock such as Steven Wilson, Porcupine Tree, Radiohead, and Mansun need to hear this.
Each track includes critical contributions from fellow Pittsburgh psych-scene heavyweights: Cosmic Wind co-conspirator, Mike Pinder--oops, Tim Good-- and Chalk Dinosaur's resident beat-blaster, Nick O'Hallaron.
