Lamp of Darkness is my ongoing solo project. I started LoD in my late teens when I wasn’t able to form a band who would play my songs. The starting sound, heard in the first album, was gothic rock / post-punk? Over the years, my sound began to evolve, inspired by specific periods of classical music, electronic ambient, sword and sorcery, ethnic / folk music, and blues / jazz. The choice of a lo-fi, shoe-string production was deliberate. In a sea of laptop-polished metronomic 0’s, 1’s, and breakdowns, this record has strived to be something different. Sonically, this is a phantom hand, steering metallic and dark music to seldom charted waters. Primitive on the surface, perhaps it is; but it is honest and human in its grime and grit. Lyrically, “V” is a narrative poetry record, especially in the second half.
