If you use the code, please consider writing a short Bandcamp review/comment. "Til eru fræ" is my first release with normal singing. Just my voice, unaltered. The song itself is old. The lyrics are by Davíð Stefánsson and it's a poem built around the idea of unfulfillment: potential that never arrives. Seeds condemned to fall into earth and never become flowers. Ships that never find land. Hope that has lost its wings. The melody is by Hungarian composer Elemér Szentirmay. It was originally performed in Icelandic by Haukur Morthen in 1954. It has lived in the Icelandic consciousness ever since, it's one of those songs that feels like it has always existed. I remember loving it ever since I was a kid, in fact I was quite shaken up when I discovered that the song was not Icelandic, because it was always one of my favourite Icelandic songs. This is a pretty basic cover. Just the song, with my regular voice, just over three minutes. A classic with a Skynbrögð twist. The second track takes the same performance and pulls it apart... stretched, layered, submerged in additional synths and processing until the song dissolves into something closer to atmosphere than melody. The words are still there, somewhere underneath, unfulfilled.
