Útmáður Hugur

Útmáður Hugur is an ambient reinterpretation and transformation of Jölli’s song Mind Erased from his album Soul Noise. The piece was sampled, processed, and recontextualized while preserving the emotional residue of the original. I guess you could think of it as a cover. The sound is intentionally both clean and restrained. Instead of an overwhelming wall of sound, I aimed for clarity, space, and precision, allowing dense layers to exist without collapsing into noise. Everything I added besides the samples is meant to fit perfectly with the original song, so there’s no extra flair that feels out of place. I layered a lot of synth work on top of it, but always with that in mind. Interestingly, I also did the synth work for Jölli’s album Soul Noise.
