12 track album / Various Artists We’re proud to present our second compilation, and we’re especially excited to offer it on vinyl, too. Two variants are available in limited quantities online. About the compilation: We were looking for original, never-before-released compositions that respond to a unique prompt. The album cover designed by Lesbianboy www.instagram.com/lesbianboy_art served as the prompt for this year’s Open Call. Artists wrote songs in response to the image, and submitted them along with written explanations of how they interpreted the image. These can be found in the cassette booklet or on the inner sleeve of the vinyl. We assembled a panel of people from the industry and musicians alike who volunteered as jury members to evaluate the submissions and curate the shortlist. “Whispers Before Midnight” is parade of timbres and textures that result in a cohesive, yet variable collection of tracks that engages the listener. The album, as a whole, gels together nicely with a good blend of both synth-dominant tracks and guitar-forward tracks. The listener is given the opportunity to taste the various influences across these tracks, as wavetearz mashed together blends of shoegaze, new wave, new romantic, and even some classic 80's synthpop. “Whispers Before Midnight,” has something to add to the broader chillsynth conversation.
