Terranes

In the language of geology, Terranes are pieces of crust, sometimes transported thousands of kilometers from distant latitudes, to be fused together by enormous forces to create new and different landmasses. Terranes exist along the western margins of the Americas giving rise to unique and exotic formations. The seven new compositions featured on "Terranes" are impressions of these immense tectonic processes which shaped the west coast. The panoramic moods swing from dark and subterranean to fractious and hyper. Musically, the compositions often employ ideas and progressions gleaned from octatonic (symmetrical) scales.
