activedarkfilament.com/Active dark filament: Immense streams of plasma suspended above the sun slowly evolving and undergoing cycles of destruction and rebirth. From Earth, they appear as regions of metamorphosis on the otherwise placid surface of the sun. The electronic music of Active Dark Filament reaches for a dramatic or cinematic soundworld that is drawn primarily from the style of the classic Krautrock artists, specifically Tangerine Dream and Klaus Schulze. There are many other influences that sometimes transfuse into the music as well including; the electronic soundscapes of Isao Tomita and Vangelis; the hybrid approach in jazz of Weather Report and later Miles Davis; the unique metrical and harmonic experimentation of progressive rock icons such as King Crimson and Genesis; and the Buchla-driven works of Morton Subotnick. More distant influences extend to twentieth century composers, primarily Stravinsky, Bartok, and Ligeti, and to the intensely rhythmic output of the electronic duo Autechre. Some of these influences do not necessarily manifest themselves directly in the music, but sometimes in the attitudes and approaches of some of these important artists.
