"A snarling anthem of apathy and defiance, where boredom becomes both shield and weapon." “I Won’t Listen” is a sardonic, bruised anthem of deliberate disengagement. Built around a deadpan, confrontational refrain, the song turns apathy into a strategy: not merely not caring, but actively refusing to be moved, comforted, or converted. Musically lean and lyrically repetitive, it balances petulant contempt with philosophical echoes — boredom becomes both refuge and indictment. Coma Beach frames withdrawal as a defensive art: a way to survive the babble of social exhortation, the faux-saints of work-and-consume culture, and the hollow promises of intimacy. "I Won't Listen" is track #12 and the fifth single from our album "The Scapegoat's Agony" (1995) as well as the lead single from our EP "I Won't Listen" (2024) and track #12 from our compilation "The Scapegoat's Agony (Edits, Odds & Ends)" (2026). The single/EP/compilation version of "I Won't Listen" is slightly shorter than the album version. "I Won't Listen" (2024) is the first installment in our "Scapegoat Revisited" EP triptych celebrating the 30th anniversary of our debut album "The Scapegoat's Agony" (1995). The album title is an allusion to the play "Waiting for Godot" by Irish playwright and novelist Samuel Beckett and points towards the - for the most part - painful and excruciating emotional odyssey of the unnamed antihero. Synopsis for "I Won't Listen": In the album’s penultimate chapter, the unnamed antihero puts on full display his cynical disdain for soul-crushing conformism and societal expectations.
