This record was recorded live with a lo fi mic. No midi, no masters. So this was an attempt to combine the sound I worked out on the last album Cyprian's Gnome with some of the more technical aspects that I had messed with on another record Umber Hulk Song. For the title track I was attempting to fuse this kind of alien dungeon noise with influences from Demilich, Frank Zappa, and Sun Ra. So this involved some really weird and unstable noise generator settings, but I'm all about imperfections. The track Smokeless Fire is of course influenced by Hindustani music, but if you know anything about Indian music you'll know this is not a raga. So I was also influenced by Scottish Piobaireachd bagpipe music here. When I first started listening to it my thought was something like, what if someone mixed this with Indian music in some way shape or form. That might not make a lot sense, and mixing it further with noise oriented dungeon synth might make even less sense. But here we are. -Ranseur
Knifework’s first transmission is a short, wonderfully diseased little machine: lo-fi old-school EBM circuitry, rusted industrial muscle, propulsive krautrock synth improvisations, minimal techno hypnosis and strange pockets of ambient nowhere-space, all stitched together with the logic of a malfunctioning dream. Synths crawl, pulse, sweat, accelerate. Rhythms appear from behind concrete. Little electronic ghosts flicker between the machinery. Inventive. Addictive. Spooky. Weirdly playful. halfdead started as a project for me to collate my sound design and compositional work, however as it evolved internally it became sort of an alter ego. following the end of my time in college, I looked towards different inspirations and found myself enjoying this medium of sound more and more, creatively taking things and destroying them then rebuilding up to somewhat calm listeners. this music of course that I am referring to is ambient music. in august 2026, after going on a walk taking photos of nature and making ideas in my notebook of things I wanted to do, I decided to get knee-deep in writing for a new release, this being what would become halfdead's self titled debut album.

Time Was is the latest release from Matt Stevenson, and his first under the moniker BTMFDR. With these five tracks, Stevenson has left the dance floor behind entirely for blown-out soundscapes, smoke-scorched atmospheres, and chasmic voids. Ideas simmering for over a decade - buried deep, forgotten - are found again only through changes in form and the passage of time. Time Was is a record of reflection, denial, and change. If you ask me, Arriba Rosario!'s "Improvs de Synth-Punk" isn't exactly punk. Sure, "Neo-Hippies" and "(11/20/23-01/07/24)" come close with some up-tempo pacing on the former and distorted guitar on the latter, which can make me think of Kraftwerk or the like. But when the solos and riffs go in, I hear Mamman Sani, the Sudanese synth explorations of Jantra, or even the 80's oddity "Sons of Ethiopia" by Admas - all things that the Argentinian 19-year-old had never heard of. An artist approaching a prolific output through several aliases for his age, A.R! first reached out with a demo that sounded nothing like this - an hour and a half of vaporwave-d rap songs. After perusing his Bandcamp I stumbled across this release and almost immediately asked if we could put this on cassette. Bridging the gap between minimal and intense, sit back and muse on the synthesizer stylings of Arriba Rosario! - 𝘔𝘈𝘓𝘒, 𝘚𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘵 𝘊𝘩𝘶𝘯𝘬
