Spanning nearly two decades, Andy Cartwright's exquisite output under the name Seabuckthorn requires little fanfare. Having relocated from the UK to the French Alps in the late twenty-tens, a plethora of battle-scarred guitars remain as Cartwright's main toolset. Yet, Seabuckthorn has subtly evolved from the primitive, Fahey-esque style of his earlier works (In Nightfall), through more experimental folk iterations heavily reliant on bowed strings and minimal percussive elements (They Haunted Most Thickly, Turns, A House With Too Much Fire). Reaching its most refined and sublime stage came as Cartwright began forging hymns of wood and steel that felt more at home on a mountain top than concealed inside some dank cathedral, shifting towards a deep droning, minimalistic approach (Other Other, Inlandscape). Lost Tribe Sound recalled a past conversation had with Cartwright, asking him to one day return with an album full of rhythm-laden work. Nearly ten years on from the release of 'Turns' on LTS, he has gifted us with 'Never the Same River.' The title was born from Cartwright's weekly ritual of walking the same mountain route and each time noticing small differences in the landscape. This led him to the famous quote, "No one ever steps in the same river twice, for they are not the same person, and it is not the same river."
With Dantalion, Porlie Eidolon and the anomalous sonic entity known as THE GOLDEN SPIRAL unveil the first half of a monumental demonic diptych for ECHØVEIL. And what an opening wound it is.
Runa – Słowianom Sława Music forged from the cold and primal darkness of Slavic lands. Runa eschews clean production in favor of a raw, unsettling atmosphere where dark ambient drones bleed into minimalist, archaic synthesizers. This is a sonic ritual dedicated to the ancestors—stripped of ornament, lo-fi, and focused on the pure essence of the underground spirit. Raw sound for those who seek truth in the shadows of the past. Cassettes available on the label Depressive Illusions Records depressiveillusions.com
Enki – Lilith Lilith is an album dedicated to Lilith — Adam’s first wife — and her exile from Paradise. It tells a story of rejection, abandonment, and solitude, which does not lead to disappearance but to persistence. Beyond Paradise remains the night — a space of exclusion, yet the only place that embraces her. The tracks mark stages of this journey. Cykle (Cycles) reveal the repetition of exile and the return to the same state of isolation. Lamentacja (Lamentation) is the first voice after loss and rupture. Za Ćmą w Noc (Beyond the Moth into the Night) marks a complete departure — moving into darkness with no possibility of return. Bez Światła, Bez Cienia (Without Light, Without Shadow) follows, continuing the descent into the abyss. Over time, night ceases to be only an abyss: in Muzyka Nocy (Music of the Night) and Krwawy Księżyc (Bloody Moon), it becomes a companion in persistence, an assigned space where existence beyond Paradise and beyond the order that rejected her is possible. Przedświt (Pre-dawn) brings neither reconciliation nor salvation — it is merely a moment of suspension before the return of night. Lilith remains marked by ostracism and rejection — consciously opposing all, yet not annihilated. Darkness is not her punishment, but a space where she can endure on her own terms. The album seeks neither approval nor justification — it is a record of deepening darkness and unbroken existence. Musically, it is raw dark ambient with elements of dungeon synth, ascetic and uncompromising, focused on the atmosphere of exile, silence, and time. Lilith persists beyond Paradise. Night is her realm. Cassettes available on the label Depressive Illusions Records depressiveillusions.com
A slow, cold drift across blackened, grieving waters… as if every tear ever shed had liquefied into a single, boundless tide. With Nuit noire de l’âme, the French experimental project Lune Noire does not merely compose music, it exhumes it, salt-soaked and shivering, from the seabed of some forgotten interior ocean. This debut unfolds like a cinematic fever suspended between collapse and revelation. A funereal invocation, yes, but one that still trembles with something recognizably human. It calls not to the heavens, but to exhausted elements: to wind that has forgotten how to howl, to rain that falls without memory, to storms that circle themselves like wounded animals. Is this the end of a world, or the pallid first morning of whatever crawls in its wake? -Sir Kuliktavikt
Voices rising from the eternal sanctuary — ritual echoes and ancient resonance drifting into cosmic dust.
Dorian Dream is a project built from a single, unpolished moment. The entire piece is derived from one recording made on my Samsung Galaxy A13 in my living room, lasting exactly 4 minutes and 25 seconds. Pure guitar improv on a Valencia classical guitar. No studio, no retakes, no refinement. The additional guitar layers, all the bass and everything comes from that one recording. The second song is thirty-three minutes and twelve seconds, but yet it's also made from that very same source. Just a phone, a guitar, and a room being a room. The guitar playing isn’t technically good, and the recording quality is pretty terrible. There’s noise, uneven dynamics, and the kind of flaws that would normally be edited out or discarded completely. Instead of fighting those limitations, I embrace them, in the spirit of Synthabsentia. The imperfections become part of the texture and the atmosphere and it all turned out ok in the end. The song is in Dorian A (according to my guitar, which is out of tune).
