5 track album, released November 7, 2026 “Comminuere Communitas” is a hypnotic music collaboration between Tim Koch & Andrew Lang, originally conceived as a live performance showcased at the 2024 PianoLab festival at ILA (Immersive Light & Art). Comprised of upright piano, Fender Rhodes piano, synthesisers, granular sampling and electronics, Koch and Lang explore the question “what is left for the piano in 2024”, pushing the answers into uncharted territory. Taking work from their solo ventures in addition to new works composed specifcally for the concert, Lang & Koch sampled their own performances and each other’s, combining these samples into a complex orchestration exploring the endless possibilities of keyboard instruments. Accompanied by cascading images of piano keyboards, scrolling pianola rolls and other music equipment morphed into abstract forms, the result is a hypnotic and mesmerising reflection of the piano’s significance in western culture. This recording is an echo of that performance, parsed together from their fuzzy combined memories of the show more than a year after its debut. The result is not a recreation, but a photocopy - an added layer of indirection and resampling from two artists accustomed to those practices in their own work.
