Demon's Court

In a tavern near one of the trading routes, that lead through Ayaruza, I once meet a group of merchants from the islands in the far east. They told me about a demonic procession, that haunts the roads of their country in the months of summer and kidnaps or kills everyone who doesn’t hide in time. As I didn’t believe them, a elderly man stood up and told his story. Once in the days of his youth, he was taken by the nightly parade of 100 demons and was brought to the court of their lord, where he was forced to work as a servant. One day he met the daughter of the Demon Lord. She was an otherworldly beauty, who was kept by her father like a bird in a golden cage. Both fell in love and decided to run away together. The Demon Lord’s daughter prepared a sleeping poison and put it into the sake of her father and his men. But the plan failed and her father woke up before the two could reach the gate into the human world and he started to chase them. The old man told, that when he and his lover reached the gate, it was like he was struck by lightning and he lost his consciousness. When he woke up, the men found himself in the bright sunlight on a dusty crossroad. His lover was gone and all he saw was a white fox, that vanished into the undergrowth. ---------- This album was inspired by Japanese folklore and uses several motives from Japanese myths. I used this bits of folklore at my best knowledge and with the highest respect for the culture of the people of Japan. I hope that I was able to create something enjoyable for everyone.

Odhinn (also known as Wodan) is one of the oldest gods of the Indo-Germanic pantheon. He was likely worshipped during the bronze age, or maybe even before those times. He is a god with many faces, who often walks among the mortals dressed as a simple wanderer. He is always seeking wisdom and even gave one of his eyes for more knowledge about the true nature of all things. His ravens fly across the worlds and tell him secrets and rumours, which they hear on their travels. There are stories which tell us how he sacrificed himself to receive the runes from the dead. This is how he brought writing into our world. But Odhinn also has a dark side. Some folk-tales in Germany tell that he lives as an evil spirit beneath mountains and send out storms from there. There are also stories of him riding trough the wintery night sky with a group of ghostly hunters. Whoever meets this Wild Hunt will be taken away with them and will never be seen again by human eyes. Furthermore Odhinn is known as a god of war. He decides witch party will win a battle and chooses the bravest among the fallen for his own army. These heroes will fight at his side in the final battle that will mark the end of our world. Odhinn unites many aspects. He is a wanderer, a sorcerer, a teacher, a judge, a shaman and a warrior. He can be as good as he can be cruel… This album aims to discover some of his diverse faces. It should not be mistaken as a political or religious statement by any means. The Norse Mythology is part of humanity’s collective cultural heritage. The old stories may be enjoyed by everyone who likes to listen to them.
