Russian Subterranean Doom Metal

Recently there has been a number of different doom metal compilations representing the post-soviet doom metal scene. Yet our compilation was put together with a different and original concept. The idea was to showcase both post-soviet undergound doom metal, bands that borderline doom as well as to present some heavy doom-metal tracks of non-doom bands. That is why it has not only doom-metal acts but some doomy tracks by the bands from outside the doom scene. We have a number of well established old bands like Crunch, Catharsis and even Vinny Appice (BLACK SABBATH, DIO) has recorded drums in to the song 'When The Devil Comes' by Stonehand (Russia). At the same time our compilation introduces many bands from the extreme underground to the listener. Most of them have an outside-of the box approach to songwriting and production.

This was intended to be a more 'straight forward' metal and rock collection, but, nothing wrong with going in some unexpected directions at times too! 26 bands/projects, 14 countries (England, Czech, Netherlands, Scotland, Switzerland, Spain, Canada, Wales, Chile, Croatia, America, Sweden, Argentina & Germany). Another one I am really pleased with, especially in that it has variety, but fits together well, and I discovered some new names along the way too, I hope you (in the bands and those finding this as a listener) will do too. There's a long history between me and Phil of TEND; connected by friends, conversations about the universe and all within it, music and live music especially, seeing each other's bands, connected at distance by both fun and tragic loss, at the end feelings leading to cathartic years and journeys, questing for inner and outer peace, and appreciating every single moment of good that wanders into your life after all that went before. The 100th Owlripper (released December 20, 2023) was a biggie; FFO doom, sludge, psychedelic, stoner, grunge, rock & metal, Yob, Monolord, Elephant Tree, Alice In Chains, Windhand, Ufomammut and the like. It is a fantastic honour to release through Owlripper this wonderfully epic, immersive piece of atmospheric and psychedelic doom by Uncle Woe, a two piece studio project based in Ontario, Canada and Melbourne, Australia. They specialise in big songs, heavily hypnotic riffs and progressions, in-depth story telling and sublime artwork to wrap their releases inside, and in the case of 'Well', it is no different. There is a stunning animated video to accompany the anthemic title track (which is included in the download here as well). Doom thrash? Stoner crust? Sludge crossover? Hard to say. LORD CENTIPEDE slithered out of the Ypsilanti / Ann Arbor region more than a decade ago and infected speakers with a kind of degeneracy that is rare to behold. In 2014 the debut album 'Centipede Up Your Ass!' became a local legend -- not just because of the front cover featuring a creature erupting from some guy's guts while he was on the toilet, but because every song was a rampage with more than enough grit and furious off-the-wall riffs to justify that artwork! But after that the centipede just kind of wriggled away. For many years, it was even thought to be dead. Thankfully, those rumors have been put to rest, because in the post-pandemic years Lord Centipede has been spotted annihilating unsuspecting audiences with adrenaline-fueled auditory mayhem! ZenNoise (The Owl)

It's really interesting to initially observe and then to hear back the journey your mind can take you on, when you let it control your body, to then set free sounds, created as the collective whole. 1. Hear ye, the beautiful storms approach 2. Pulled forwards through time 3. To a safe land when nothing makes sense (and it is glorious) 4. At the entrance of Garuda 5. Discovering levels of wisdom that didn't exist before... 6. Picture storms - Being, onwards and upwards Blanka is my muse. She constantly unlocks parts of my brain I didn't know I could aim for. She 'inspired zen noise grooves', this rehearsal space recording. Putting my brain into gear, about improvisace in music, to put self into motion, to help better survive life; skills to learn, to endlessly inspect and progress, as a person, aiming to understand every other person.
